FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE DATE: October 23, 2015 High Desert Opportunity Celebrates Another Successful Business Event The High Desert Opportunity Committee is pleased to celebrate the success of their 2015 event. HDO President, Gwen Bedics, shared her thoughts about the conference saying, “The 2015 High Desert Opportunity conference was a tremendous success. Our ‘Made in the High Desert’ theme carried through from the great panel of speakers in HD Theater to the inaugural Manufacture’s Showcase that featured businesses that make products right here in the High Desert. Keynote Speaker Bill Rancic was very well received as he shared very insightful tips for businesses. On behalf of the High Desert Opportunity Committee, many thanks to the sponsors, exhibitors, speakers, and vendors that helped us to produce this year’s event.” Rancic spoke to a packed house of attendees during the luncheon portion of High Desert Opportunity. He is published author of a New York Times best-selling book, Rancic wrote “You’re Hired: How to Succeed in Business and Life”. This book chronicles his successful life, experience and advice. During the morning HD Theater program, which consisted of a number of topic driven panels, Elizabeth Glynn from the California Manufacturing Technology Consulting (a non-profit dedicated to improving the manufacturing community in Southern California), spoke about maximizing the opportunities and synergies for local manufacturing firms. Glynn shared, “Manufacturers are sitting on untapped opportunity – selling (exporting) their products in global markets. The Made in USA quality and label are valued throughout much of the world. And, overseas buyers know that Made in California manufacturers – due stringent standards – provide some of the best products in the world. Manufacturers are encouraged to access state and federal business resources that are available to them. One example is CMTC’s ExporTech™ program, www.cmtc.com/exporting, which helps Manufacturers accelerate business growth in global markets. Manufacturers seeking added visibility of their capabilities and products are encouraged – at no cost – to increase their visibility and register their Companies on the Made in California website, http://www.cmtc.com/made-in-california-profile”. Other HD Theater speakers included a representative from the Governor’s Office of Economic and Business Development (GoBiz), who described state business development tools and resources, including sales and use tax exemptions for purchases of manufacturing equipment. A morning panel made up of education and workforce leaders also addressed some of the available employment training resources and initiatives that are available to help manufacturers and business. High Desert Opportunity was excited to provide a place for local businesses and visitors from out-of-the area to learn more about the untapped opportunities in the high desert region. High Desert Opportunity is an annual business event that focuses on bringing site locators, commercial real estate brokers and business owners from outside the area to the High Desert to demonstrate the value of expanding or relocating their business or clients to our region. This year, for the first time, First District Supervisor Robert A. Lovingood sponsored an additional exhibit hall for local manufacturing firms. Over 600 local students from local schools toured the building on Wednesday and were able to speak to the manufacturers and learn about local manufacturing, manufacturing jobs and essential training programs for manufacturing jobs. The exhibit hall was also open during HDO to highlight local manufacturing opportunities and the benefits of locating to our region. The “Made in the High Desert” exhibit hall was so successful, there are plans for expansion next year. For more information visit highdesertopportunity.com or call 760-245-7600. Like us on Facebook.
