The one-day event is focused on marketing the High Desert region for business attraction, as well as an economic forecast of the Victor Valley and Inland Empire Region. The High Desert Opportunity Summit recently announced the date as October 25, 2018, and the location as the High Desert Events Center in Victorville. High Desert Opportunity is returning to the High Desert after holding the conference in Rancho Cucamonga the previous two years. Tickets will go on sale later this month. Eric Schmidt, President of the Victor Valley College Foundation and Cari Thomas, the President of High Desert Opportunity, collectively agreed the partnership made sense to both organizations, sponsors and the loyal event attendees. “We are extremely excited to merge the two events together to bring a revamped High Desert Opportunity and High Desert Economic Summit to the region. Funds raised will ultimately aim to increase the skilled workforce in the High Desert region,” said Schmidt. HDO has a long history in the region and is designed to draw business owners and site locaters from out of the area, introducing them to the benefits of expanding or relocating to the Valley. A key highlight of the event is also a big name keynote speaker, which in the past had included people such as basketball legend Magic Johnson, Shark Tank star Barbara Corcoran. Last year’s HDO keynote speaker was Eric Schurenberg, editor-in-chief of Inc. Magazine. With the recent merger of the High Desert Economic Summit and High Desert Opportunity, this years’ conference will include an economic forecast educating attendees about the economic future of the High Desert, Inland Empire and state as a whole. In the past, High Desert Economic Summit has featured economists like UC Riverside’s Christopher Thornberg, and Inland Empire economic expert John Husing. The High Desert Economic Summit speakers will be announced in late June. Proceeds of “High Desert Opportunity Summit” are benefiting the Victor Valley College Foundation, which provides scholarship and grant opportunities to students at Victor Valley College.
